The Kinsey Institute Traumatic Stress Research Consortium

Dr. Stephen Porges founded the Kinsey Institute Traumatic Stress Research Consortium, with a team of researchers and clinicians to further our understanding of trauma’s effects on the body. The lab works closely with Dr. Porges and the consortium to study the physiological responses and autonomic nervous system functioning of trauma survivors.

The research scope of the consortium is aligned with Polyvagal Theory, a theory developed by Dr. Porges, as a means to explain the effects of traumatic experience on the autonomic nervous system. The research explores the long-term impacts of trauma on social, sexual, and physiological functioning. Current technologies that are being developed in our lab will be used to improve physiological measurements from trauma survivors and further the consortium’s research.
